The Spice Mines of Kessel

I am being dramatic but my vacation is over. I saw something that made me laugh though, that if the last few weeks of vacation have taught me anything is that I am going to be really good at retirement.

I have been on a Star Wars kick and rewatching some of their movies, Solo was better than I remembered. I don’t think it got the praise it deserved. Watched The Force Awakens yesterday. I took my kids to see that in the theater, it felt huge and monumental to be able to share the continuation of a story with them that had started when I was a child. On the rewatch its good but not great. I think having the knowledge of what they did with the trilogy really colors it poorly for me. Rey should have been a Kenobi, no two ways about it. It would have been such a better story and wrap up to the entire Skywalker saga. The ball being dropped on that is just unforgivable.

In addition to Star Wars I have been combing over folklore alot, trying to learn a bit more about myths and legends from outside my normal comfort zones. Russia and the Nordic countries have some very strange and intriguing stories. Arthurian legend has been on my mind thanks to a new RPG I got for Yule. It being the new year I am working on some “better” habits, it’s hard though, I am recovering from some illness that keeps me a bit tired and mostly stationary. Soon though, back to long walks, drawing and exercising. Maybe some hiking and I have the strong urge to build a fort in the woods. We shall see

It’s not that I don’t want to work, I just want that work to be in my movie and not someone else’s.
