Neverland Time

The period after Yule and Christmas and until I return to work in the New Year is always such a strange liminal space. I absolutely love it though. I think I get the best sleep of the entire year in that week to week and a half. I dont set alarms, I go to sleep when I want and wake up when I want. I feel rested when I wake up. It’s a wacky concept I know but I will say that living in a world schedule is not natural for us. Being on a racial synchronized clock where we as humanity all agree that 8 am is when work should start and 5pm is when dinner happens, that 10pm is around bed and these 5 days in a row are when we should work at the job we do for other people and these 2 days are when we can get caught up on the job we do for ourselves and maybe if we can manage it get some rest. It’s insanity. My stress levels plummet as soon as I don’t have to be on someone else’s schedule.

So it’s New Years eve, and I don’t really do public declarations of resolutions. I do plan on making some changes this year and improving some things. Maybe just maybe I am working towards that key that unlocks the shackles of the world schedule. I think it’s funny when I see all the “if I won the lottery I wouldn’t tell anyone but there would be signs” it’s usually something food related or nostalgia purchases. I think mine would be to never set another alarm. What a great goal.

I spent most of this year working on art fundamentals, studying other peoples work, emulating styles and gestures and vibes. I usually post a cute collage on my instagam but this year I am putting it here. Not as a Collage but just a look back thru time to see where I was on this date. Its mostly sketchbook stuff but some digital as well. Mignola, Milt Kahl, Skottie Young, Derek Laufman, Don Bluth, Jake Parker, Stan Sakai, Bruce Timm and a number of others were studied. Some of it is straight off the dome though.

Enjoy
