Project Flannel

One of the things I learn very quickly as I am working on my comic is all the things I don’t know how to do. All the things I am not great at. It is humbling and informative all at once. I am talking about the Sci-Fi comic but it’s true of the Lu & Dag comic as well. This kind of thing is very easy to fall to, to become discouraged and downtrodden. But I find that I am learning more than I would if I didn’t have a reason to if that makes sense. Because I want to draw things in perspective I am learning perspective, I want my character to look the same from all angles so I am learning how to do character turn arounds. It’s not a fast process. I make small steps daily, and don’t always feel like I am net positive on progress at the end of a day. I slide back alot, as I come to understand the scope of the task. So some days I might be a step ahead, others a few steps behind. It can be tiring. But, I don’t think it is tiring in the way that discouragement makes you tired. It is more tiring in the way that information overload can be.

This past week I would love to say I made a ton of progress but really most of my work this past week was fundamentals, working on concepts, building the foundation. I shared this piece to my gallery, and a few social spots online. I finished it up this weekend and just wanted to explore the characters when they were not floating in space, and to see what the vibe of the style would look like. I also worked on a logo that I am going to share at some point soon.

So my current checklist, the things I am working on…

  • Continue to refine main character

  • Create sidekick and secondary characters, more detail and depth. Get them out of the concept stage

  • Work on faction specific vibes, what each groups equipment looks like that sort of thing

  • Thumbnail the first page/2 page spread

Outside of Project Flannel, Lu & Dag went fishing this past week, I am still reading comics and playing a few video games to relax. The weather has been very nice this week, much cooler and teasing my favorite Autumn vibes. It’s a trap though, we are going back up into the 80’s but it’s nice while it lasts. We have a flurry of birthdays this month as well so I have been working in the kitchen, my contribution to these events is usually culinary based.

Enjoy the comic, the art and thanks for reading.
