Blessed Samhain
I’m 2 days early of course because of the blog schedule but I decided 2 days early was better than 5 days late for next week. Plus I have to write about something so may as well right?
Halloween was always one of my favorites growing up, we were poor so some holidays you really felt that. Make a list for Santa but keep it reasonable is something that you shouldn’t say to a kid. But Halloween as a kid, it didn’t matter what my costume was, in fact the standard was pretty horrible so even the year we got a garbage bag and construction paper leaves as a costume it didn’t matter. What did was I was turned loose to roam the town after dark and extort candy out of people, that eventually grew into wandering at night, listening to scary stories, inventing some of my own and wandering in cemeteries. I even had a long dark trench coat and listened to metal music for a bit. Didn’t have the makeup budget to be a real goth but my heart was inky black. So I loved Halloween. As an adult learning about what Samhain actually was I only grew more attached.
I love all the holidays more because of my wife and kids, but Samhain and its manic energy when you have little ones is really something else. These days I stay home and hand out candy to the little ones and watch some holiday centric movies. Usually Trick or Treat, Hocus Pocus and that sort of thing.
However you celebrate (or don’t) I hope everyone has a calm and enjoyable weekend.
